Paul started listening to The Archers in the early 1980s as a way to get close to the land, as he realised his boyhood dream of becoming a farmer was unlikely given he was being brought up in south east London. The influence of the James Herriot stories made him ponder a career as a vet to be like his hero Alistair Lloyd, but this morphed into a Richard Locke way of life when it dawned on him the people stories of the books were the most interesting side.

Even though Kent has been home for the last 20 years, he enjoys escaping to the hills of Yorkshire and the Peak District to smell the fresh country air. His long suffering wife and children seem baffled by his love of The Archers, although they have heard key moments in Ambridge history, most memorably Nigel plummeting to his death, as this coincided with a family car journey and whoever is driving at the time gets to choose the radio station.

Other interests include supporting his beloved Derby County that has made him used to the adversities in life, long distance walking, short distance cycling, and trying unsuccessfully to grow a holiday beard. Please don't say 'Right you are' near him as this is known to set him off frothing at the mouth on a rant.
