I seem to remember that she did have a silent friend called Izzy, from school I think. When Pip went to university, Izzy got a job as a check out operator. Pip didn’t like university at first and considered quitting and joining Izzy as a check out operator. Her parents did not approve and she eventually changed her mind. Thank god for that or we would have had a middle class girl performing a working class job and the universe would explode.
Also, her old boyfriend Spencer was a local guy who hung around in the same group. There was no painful break up or anything so you would think she would maintain some sort of friendship with him.
It appears her friends have deserted her since she changed from oldPip to nuPip. Poor nuPip. No friends but Matthew who has dumped her.
She seemed to have plenty of mates at uni, i can only imagine maintaining regular friendships when you work long, crap hours, live rather remotely and dont have a lot of peers locally would be hard.
Doesn’t she also have the other Young Farmers? I seem to remember some social events last summer when the Fairbrethren first came on the scene including some sort of scavenger hunt?
But she never mentions them or going to meetings or down the Bull with them
Following on this thought there seems to be a shortage of girls in Ambridge near to Pip’s age which, in addition to her lacking in friends, also makes her the only eligible love interest in town (for the straight male resident of her generation). There will have to be an influx of characters for this generation of residents to hook up with/ become involved in more interesting love triangles than the Pip-Matt-Rex-Toby SL we are currently suffering through. Phoebe had her ill fated romance but will soon go away to school, and Dan had to join the army to find his Dorothy, but that still leaves Josh, Rúairi, Freddie, Johnny and Jamie. It seems like they will all have to go away and find some poor unsuspecting girl to bring back home to live in Ambridge. Will the Madikane sibs ever come to live in Ambridge? Will Meriel decide that she want’s to know the Archer family better and move to Ambridge?
