The Archers has nearly always been recorded in Birmingham originally with very long microphone leads planted around the village stretching into the mixing desk and recording systems housed in Birmingham, nowadays they use wifi! Roifield also claims Birmingham as his home city so it is only fitting that DumTeeDum should finally move out of the Southeast and visit the very fine Town Hall (City Hall would be far too American) to undertake a live recording with what sounds like an unfeasibly large audience singing an introductory Barwick Green. Our normal hosts are joined on stage (stage – now there’s posh for you) by writer Keri Davies desperately trying not to give away future stories and Charlotte Martin no doubt hoping to find out if there are any future story lines for Susan Carter.
So what was the point of Anisha? Apparently some of the Archers’ cast members find ways of balancing Ambridge and other commitments but Anneika Rose was pretty busy – Doctors, Apple Tree Yard, Ordinary Lies, Silent Witness, Line of Duty, Ackley Bridge, Electric Dreams, Good Karma Hospital and The Cry for TV plus theatre etc. Hardly surprising she could not find time to get to Birmingham. So she had to go.
A recent long term planning meeting even got around to considering events in 18 years’ time (I predict Rosie will have a birthday celebration). Looking backwards Charlotte talks her time “in jail” when we all wanted to free the “Ambridge One”.
And Roifield wants to make it an annual event.
