The weekly examination of Ambridgian doings is tinged with sadness following the sad passing of Ted Kelsey as his long term contribution is acknowledged by fellow cast members, Roifield, Lucy and the social media team. The Archers is one of the very few programmes that continues to welcome and encourage the activities of the older village members right up to the point at which they are unable to be heard at all.
However opinions vary on Peggy. Roifield provides a supporting voice for Peggy but Lucy espouses a less positive appreciation. Peggy’s journey from left wing firebrand to the alleged voice of the Daily Mail (as Lucy suggests) is probably worthy of a study by Ambridge Academics. Her treatment of Emma is however beyond the pale.
Inevitably the relationship between Tom and his devoted wife comes under the microscope and we are reminded of Tom’s lack of ambition – the farm and the pigs are central to his life, existence and future. Brenda demanded a wider horizon whilst Kirsty was never interested in business. So Natasha (in reverse “Ah Satan”) who apparently has a business brain (although not a financial bone in her body) and no doubt a body to match struggles with Tom’s pig based event horizon, even if the pigs are for the chop.
Apparently Steed, Emma and Tara have a new film out called Endgame and Roifield is much taken by their antics, although I feel he goes a little far in referring to them as super-heroes and when he diverges into Game of Thrones must be confused because Emma was forced to commit suicide several series ago.
