Her Majesty’s ex Principal Secretary of State for the Home Department, normally referred to as the Home Secretary, the Home Office and a senior Cabinet minister in Her Majesty’s Government, the first female Home Secretary that is Jacqui Smith, joins Roifield.
So Roifield uses this week’s podcast to chat up Jacqui, at least until she reveals that following some internet dating she now has a boyfriend. Her knowledge of The Archers is supreme having answered all the questions correctly on Celebrity Mastermind in her specialist round – the subject of which was of course “The Archers”.
Having recently had Michael Lumsden (Alastair) on a Zoom meeting Roifield does not quite remember the “Horse Painting” story correctly. Following his return to the village Shula had invited Dr Locke to Sunday lunch at the Stables – and Jim was also living there at the time before he bought his own place. Jim was not in for lunch and Alastair sits there whilst Shula chats up a former lover and is asked where Jim is today. When Dr Locke leaves, Alastair suddenly remembers why Jim is out. “Horse Paintings”. And Jim’s interest in horse paintings has never been mentioned again from that day to this.
Jacqui recalls her favourite “baddies” – Matt Crawford, Simon Gerrard and Cameron Fraser. She also tells us that it is not possible to die in the Palace of Westminster.
And Glyn – it was the late Colin Skipp who was the real Tony Archer.
