This week the guest presenter chair go round ran out of steam as Quentin, Rosie and Philippa took total control and Roifield was relegated to watching the recording levels, flicking a few switches and leaving the new team to express varied views on Justin as a daffodil, Lilian and her grey rabbit, Rex’s piggies (which seemed to be particularly appealing to Lily), Jazzer going off fish, Tracy learning about Greek sex whilst Alice wants to leave home.
Ambridge Pony Club wants Rex as Lord Emsworth, but in reality Jazzer probably has the better relationship with pigs. Rex has never quite “got” pigs. Our hosts try to match villagers and Wodehouse characters – missing the obvious comparison of Kenton and Wooster as a pair of twits. Come to think of it where is Kenton?
The hosts speculate on where Alice might go. To Jenny? No spare room. To Peggy? Probably the warmest welcome from sister and grandmother, after all she knows Peggy knows. To Adam? Have to admit her problem? Back to rehab? I suggest the Amy Winehouse response: “No, No, No” to that one.
Do other people re-write their history? Jazzer never wanted the Berrow job & then walked out on Tom. This week he tells a different story to Tracy. I think for once the permanent ketamine damage showed up. There was no way his confidence was impacted by those events.
The current absence of one third of the weekly output is unbalancing the entirety of the output. Failure to properly manage the output with uneven writing and poor regard for characters whilst trying to impose long overdue issues is slowly killing the slimmed down skeleton. The equally sad news that Radio 4 is killing off the 15 minutes of drama within Womans’ Hour really demonstrates that the BBC appears to have lost the plot over dramatic output.
