DTD: 360 – Kirsty gets married to a slaver

This week’s comments come caked in mud to prove that tier 2 is very dangerous.  Imagine the scene, a muddy walkway between two lakes, an enthusiastic, bouncy, powerful Bordanese (a cross between a Border Collier and a Bernese Mountain Dog) at the end of a modest lead sighting a harmless looking swan about six feet into the nearest lake which said dog decides is either lunch or a new playfriend.  Dog takes off at high speed.  Attached walker is wearing brand new coat and wellington boots because it is so wet and loses his footing and starts sliding on the mud towards […]

DTD: 359 – Shula’s big bum and old favourites return

Blasts from the past this week as Millie Belle and Yokel Bear are sitting in the hot seats alongside Roifield this week – a truly multi-national, multi-continental combination.   Yokel Bear predicts that Roman will fall into a hole over the Christmas production – a trench of some description no doubt – which will lead to Lynda returning next week.  It is also predicted that Roman will be dumped by Tracy who will take up with Jazzer – can anyone see Jazzer settling for one woman however well endowed?    Meanwhile Alice and Philip continue to be discussed.  I feel […]

Character Count – November 2020

A momentous month in Ambridge with episodes sounding more and more like they did in the pre-monologue era. Episodes in November featured an average of between five and six characters. The only two-hander we’ve heard since the beginning of September was the brilliant bathroom episode with Alice and Chris Carter. We also heard a voice from beyond the grave when Ruairi played the CD that his mother Siobhan had recorded for him to hear on his eighteenth birthday. And we heard a “Right You Are” from Eddie Grundy. POSITION CHARACTER EPISODES 1 Alice Carter 6 1 David Archer 6 1 […]

DTD: 358 – David Archer is the grey man of Ambridge and things you always wanted to know about Southampton

Roifield announces that Tractr will be back soon – probably about the time this appears and it is also the case the website has had a good old going over.  So pop in, update your location and you can message others.  With lockdown ending (at least in the UK) perhaps we can all start arranging meetings for physically distanced meals in a pub post-vaccine when we might even manage to talk to one another.   Meanwhile in TA little is happening – apart from David talking about cows – but then he is a cow farmer.  The LoLo Xmas Xtravaganza […]

DTD: 356 – Ruairi comes out, Siobhan returns and a nation weeps!

Roifield feels that the time spent this week by Brian rampaging around the house wanting to speak to Aunt Niamh was a waste of good air time.  The CD should have arrived later in the week.  Can someone explain to me why Ruari is not at college doing his “A” Levels – Ben too for that matter?  It was inevitable that Jenny would be the rock for Ruari – she has looked after him and she of course will be the first person Ruari tells about his personal feelings about his sexuality.  It provides all sorts of additional storyline possibilities […]

DTD: 355 – Hunting for action in Ambridge, its slim pickings this week

Rosie Porty and Quentin Rayner are back and so was Willum as Eddie and Will morphed back into Del Boy and “Dave” Trotter replaying times past as the metal detector also re-appeared for a treasure hunt on Brookfield, which led to Eddie turning into a Brookfield security guard.    Quentin expresses the view that Philip and Gavin had set up the non-attendance at the GA meeting but I do not buy this as Philip could not see a way out of the village without convincing Kirsty (who is very easily duped which I don’t buy) that Gavin is safe to […]

Character Count – October 2020

BACK TO THE ARCHERS! So many of the lockdown episodes have focused on Alice and Chris, Philip and Gavin, Lynda and Robert, that it was nice to get back to the Archer family in the second half of the month — even if that meant hearing Ruth and Pip moaning and Ben swooning! We also welcomed back Jennifer Aldridge who had not been heard since before the lockdown began. I thought we were going to be introduced to a new character — Evie — the student on the archaeological dig, but it was not to be. We did however meet […]

DTD: 353 – Lizzy and Vince, will they be a thing? Roifield is joined by Phillipa Hall of the Quick Books Review Podcast

A new host joins Roifield this week – Phillipa Hall is in the co-host chair – the podcast spends a fortune moving that chair around the country each week to enable us to hear so many different voices.  Phillipa hugely enjoyed former co-host Jackie Smith’s appearance on Strictly Come Dancing at the weekend and we all hope that an Archers listener can reach the final.   Amber arrives to do That Was the Ambridge week That Was (almost TWAT Week) as Vince commences his pursuit of Lizzie (not difficult given that Roy succeeded), the writers avoided the pass the ipad […]

DTD: 351 – Hidden coins and hidden pregnancy problems!

Every so often Roifield goes “Help us out Kosmo?” and this week it is the wonderful “Jenny dahling” and her background.  I would love Jenny D to be invited on DumTeeDum please.  Angela Piper sounds from comments of other cast members to be a wonderful individual and she deserves being recognised on DumTeeDum.    Turning to the question raised some years ago she was accused of being Oxbridge educated on account of her accent and she simply made reference to a Teacher training college.  I think that Walsall should be proud of producing such an accent.  For some reason which I […]

DTD: 350 – Sunny Ormonde aka Lilian Bellamy -Quentin Raynor and Rosie Portie

This week’s podcast is a slight departure from normal as Sunny Ormonde (Lillian Bellamy) returns for a Friday evening Zoom with Roifield, Rosie Porty and Quentin Raynor with the last of those undertaking some probing and yet delightful questioning of Sunny on the way that the actors can maintain physical distancing yet kiss other village residents.    Sunny also brings us up to date on current recording arrangements in the Mailbox in Birmingham and the new studio arrangements.   She is fairly confident that there will be no reversion to complete monologues as skills of recording at least two party conversations […]
