DumTeeDum deserves an award!
And, if there is no BAFTA category, let’s create one! Being from Canadaland, I have no idea how one does that, but there must be someone in UKland who knows!

The origin of this ancient order is lost in the midst of time. There is mention of it in the footnotes of the Magna Carta and Bede makes reference to it in his Anglo Saxon Chronicles. Roifield revived the order some podcasts ago after realising that a long dead but beloved character of the show John Archer, had the same name as this order. He took the idea to Lord Netherbourne that Dumteedum could revive this old chivalric “gong” To be awarded the order of John Archer you need to either have a “John” on your birth certificate or to tell […]

Whilst I was very sad to hear about Lucy’s father – it hasn’t really changed my mind about Kenton. Kenton was planning to “redeem” himself and “become the man he always dreamed of being” not through hard work, struggle and effort and actually changing his cavalier, reckless behaviour but through making use of money he hoped to obtain from a commercial deal which he was not part of (he was not part of negotiations) concerning an asset to which he had not added any value. It’s not like work-related stress where “the demands of work exceed your ability to cope”. And […]
With Susan’s comment last week that she had “fired the first shot” over the repurposing of the shop, I decided that I wanted to see an action-adventure serial starring Susan as a lone avenger. Here’s my pre-credits opening scene… EXT. LAKEY HILL – DAY Dawn breaks over Lakey Hill. Lazy fingers of watery sunshine glint off the dew and filter through the early mist that rises off the fields. A lone, slightly dishevelled young man stands broadcasting grain to a gaggle of goslings. CUT TO: EXT. SHRUBBERY ON THE SIDE OF LAKEY HILL – DAY Warm rays of sunlight illuminate […]
Oh yes! My all time favourite character went, as Lucy said, POSTAL this week and wow was it spot on! What I love about the Archers is the class war that simmers under the surface and then – WHOOOOOSH! – like a geyser in Iceland (the country not the shop) erupts a stream of boiling rage, invective and bile!!!!! Susan has,at least in her mind, moved on from the council accommodation and her working class roots , so it is totally in character that when a real middle class person does something that slights her – she totally kicks off, […]
Susan fires the first shot over the shop. A single bullet to Hazel’s left temple with Neil’s laser-sighted air rifle, no doubt. (And now I want the “Susan Carter: Borsetshire Rogue Assassin” miniseries more than anything. Where did Archer’s Extra get to when you really need it?) RUTH: “Daaavid… How come you’re happy to talk about anything and everything this morning, EXCEPT what’s happening to me Mother?” DAVID: “Errr… because I’m a bloke. Not talking about it – EVER – is how we handle stuff like this.” Have I got this right? Currently living in Brookfield are: David, Ruth, Pip, […]
Which relationship would you prefer to be trapped in: Jolene & Kenton’s, or Helen & Rob’s? Both are relationships under stress – one from mental health issues, the other from domestic abuse. Kenton’s middle name might be ‘Hubris’, but with the proper support from his wife and (when he’s prepared to accept it) his extended family, some counselling and debt advice and possibly some medical intervention, Kenton will be back to his old self in a few months. Rob, however, is being his ‘normal’ self. I think that flash of anger we saw this week is his default personality, and […]
“Drinking the Kool-Aid” is a figure of speech used in the US which describes a situation where a group of people seem to be going along with a particularly bad idea … like Helen and Rob’s marriage. I understand that Pat, Tony and Tom don’t want to upset Helen but I can’t believe they really think marrying Rob was the right thing to do. “He’s made her happy” isn’t any reason to go along with it! Some seriously deranged women fall in love with men on death row and apparently that makes them happy, too. OK, so that’s not the best analogy – but […]
Been away from Ambridge for a while and returned for a quick visit only to hear that not only is Rob not in prison for something horrible, but Helen has actually married him! This storyline is obviously a slow burner…..possible denouement not before 2020 at this rate…. Hearing Soooosan’s dulcet tones have meant that I’ll stay a bit longer than planned….want to see how the modernisation (!) of the village shop goes…..t**ts up I hope…!
