I realise that The Archers is in the grasp of an interim editor as the last one departed having stuffed up poor Nic’s life but the gap from reality seems immense.
Olwen represents the editor no doubt calling in a favour from the wonderful Alison Steadman. In my view Ms Steadman is of National Treasure status and the role she should have been given should have reflected that – she could have popped into Ambridge without being a car dwelling, cough ridden, angry old woman – she could have looked up her old Greenham friend, dispensed much left wing guidance to the new millionaires on the block with charm and warmth leaving all concerned feeling better as she departed; she would still have achieved the media coverage and left the programme with it not being entirely doom and gloom. Or she could have stayed and sorted out Alistair’s needs.
And frankly why did Carpet Burns suggest Pat check the Elms? Very poor thinking there – as if the writers did not really want to write it! And the events around Hannah rematerialising at Berrow would only make sense if she had just stumbled out of the Tardis.
Meanwhile I would be worried for our armed forces if cry baby Dan is leading them over the top. Get a stiff upper lip and a ramrod up your backside for a spine – army captain with no degree – just how likely is that please?
After the main course there are two desserts – Millie Belle and an ever more frantic Facebook plus at the very end a huge map corner – but Roifield promises no more until June. Lucy avoided it by going offline!
