Keri Warbis returns for another week and relates her difficulties with the new format, taking at least three attempts to absorb the content of The Archers. Roifield says that the new format exposes the writing and the actors to greater scrutiny as there is not a huge amount the director can interpose on the words and the way that the various actors are delivering them plus the lack of voice changes makes listening more difficult than normal as we no longer get the instant reaction of the participants in each scene as we would with the usual interplay.
Following release of this episode Lucy announced on Twitter that she has departed the DumTeeDum presenting family having contributed for 6 years and so I would just like to pay tribute to Lucy for introducing us to Derek’s back bedroom, Elizabeth’s tent flaps, Basil and also providing her informed guidance on dealing with the effects arising from and treatment of depression – which touched a chord with many listeners I suspect. I suppose there is a limit to new jokes about knobs, back passages and sexual deviation – but somehow Lucy always managed to knock out another one. Needless to say her affection of Mapp and Lucia, P G Wodehouse and much of English literature has also reached our ears over recent years.
So we wish you well Lucy; I certainly hope that you are not lost to us completely and that your dulcet tones will still appear from time to time as a callerinerer – if only to ensure that Roifield is not always right.
