This week’s podcast is a slight departure from normal as Sunny Ormonde (Lillian Bellamy) returns for a Friday evening Zoom with Roifield, Rosie Porty and Quentin Raynor with the last of those undertaking some probing and yet delightful questioning of Sunny on the way that the actors can maintain physical distancing yet kiss other village residents.
Sunny also brings us up to date on current recording arrangements in the Mailbox in Birmingham and the new studio arrangements. She is fairly confident that there will be no reversion to complete monologues as skills of recording at least two party conversations are now fairly solid even if a lockdown is imposed. Sunny also explains that when they are doing remote recordings then she can hear the other actor in one ear, the director in another ear, the recording technician in a third ear, the sound effects technician in her fourth ear, the editor in her fifth ear and Uncle Tom Cobbley and all in her sixth ear – somehow that does not read as well as she made it sound!
The recent interactions between Lillian and the Snells and also with Alish are mulled over as Sunny has become the Ambridge Agony Aunt! Sunny herself liked the storyline about her face lift and the bed scenes – of which Lilian has had many – with the sound effects technician having the job of rustling the heavy Egyptian cotton sheets and undoing zips on trousers!
Later Quentin’s skills again come to the fore in quizzing our US community members on how they came to listen to The Archers and DumTeeDum and why they find English rural life so interesting.
