For once this cannot be a place for levity or digression. I have felt the strength and support of our wonderful Dumteedum community in the past and we have sadly lost one of our own with the death of Millie Belle. Roifield and Yokel Bear pay their tributes to Julie Riley and I would point you at https://www.justgiving.com/fundrai…/milliebelle-julieriley where Roifield has put a page so that her memory may be honoured.
Turning to Ambridge it was a gentle character centred week of the sort to be held in high regard by those amongst who believe this is the true strength of The Archers. The first part of the week was to remind and enhance our recollections of Bert Fry; left unremarked was his comedy interplay over the years with Joe (and others) and of his efforts as a Lower Loxley guide. The latter part of the week was a great revelation as Julian Rhind-Tutt (playing Trevor) was given a part almost entirely at odds with the roles he normally takes and where the quality of sandwich fillings in Strasbourg is of greater significance than his late father.
In terms of Ambridge, more weeks like this, perhaps without the loss of a character would be very welcome.
The Bungalow is agriculturally tied and both it and Rickyard Cottage should be occupied by Brookfield employees or otherwise bringing in income to the farm (eg holiday lets). My guess is that Pip will want the Bungalow (it was originally built for David and Ruth) and Josh will demand the Cottage. This leaves Rex out on his ear and I wonder if the Council Farm will magically become available to rent after all.
