There is great concern in the DTD community. For many years the corner chair in the Bull has been occupied by one of the village’s old codgers. “Me Old Pal, Me Old Beauty” Walter Gabriel held high office for many years and in rapid succession we have lost both Joe Grundy and the young upstart Bert Fry. It would appear that the well of village codgers is now sadly dry as there is no obvious successor – apart perhaps from Eddie who is allegedly still working at the age of 70; I have it on good authority that William knows a thing or two about public houses but he is perhaps too young to take up permanent residence in the Bull, although it is not obvious how he has survived financially since ceasing to be a keeper.
Philippa and I did indeed exchange messages on the subject of Toby’s job and residence. Given his reported proclivities (and indeed ability to sweep the matriarch Kate off her feet) I gave no credence at all to his continuing residence under the same duvet cover as Pip for such a long, long time but this week we were given the finer details of this arrangement.
Having previously complained about the quality of The Archers when only four episodes a week were being delivered I feel I should say that it feels better with five and I can but hope that full rations will resume ere long as it still feels unbalanced with stories re-appearing from nowhere – most obviously with “Summer Orchard” appearing out of the gloomy recesses of the card index.

This week’s DumTeeDum tune is from our Stephen and we are lucky enough to hear thoughts from Christina, Rachel, Matthew, Mellie, Jen, Clare, Witherspoon, Rob, Brian, Sarah, Charles & Rosamund. Marvellous!
