Character Count – May 2020

What a strange month! Most of May 2020 comprised the three weeks of The Archers Revisited episodes, broadcast to give the production team time to record new “Talking Heads” style episodes, with actors recording monologues from makeshift studios in their homes as a result of the Coronavirus lockdown restrictions preventing the usual recording process from taking place. None of the characters featured in the Revisited episodes is included in May’s Character Count. Only those who appeared in the final week of May ﹣ the first week of the new episodes ﹣ are listed in the chart. So it’s very short. […]

DTD: 330 – Twitter’s Archer’s super Fan Keri Warbis sorts out Ambridge

A new co-host this week – the regular Tweeter of the Week – Keri Warbis – sits in for Lucy this week.  Keri has never called in and she actually makes it straight into the hot seat where Roifield extends his customary grilling and flirting – and Keri does better in responding than Dominic Cummings who probably won’t be on next week.  Keri does not fall for it even though she admits to being single unlike last week’s visitor!   Witherspoon is looking ahead to the new episodes which are about to be delivered from Birmingham and the impact of […]

DTD: 329 – Jacqui Smith Archers super fan and the ex Home secretary

Her Majesty’s ex Principal Secretary of State for the Home Department, normally referred to as the Home Secretary, the Home Office and a senior Cabinet minister in Her Majesty’s Government, the first female Home Secretary that is Jacqui Smith, joins Roifield. So Roifield uses this week’s podcast to chat up Jacqui, at least until she reveals that following some internet dating she now has a boyfriend.  Her knowledge of The Archers is supreme having answered all the questions correctly on Celebrity Mastermind in her specialist round – the subject of which was of course “The Archers”.   Having recently had […]

DTD: 328 – The BBC repeats The Archers and Angela Barnes joins the fun.

With The Archers in lockdown and taking us on a journey through some of the recent archives, Dumteedum also takes a walk on the wild side and becomes the Dennis the Menace fan club  as the Beano character takes centre stage in the podcast with both Roifield and our returning special guest presenter Angela Barnes finding that they both had “Gnasher” badges and much else in common.   Congratulations to Angela on her engagement.   New callers often recall an early story from when they commenced listening and this enables Roifield to recall Mike’s inability to select a tie for […]

DTD: 327 – Lucy, Roifield and Dumteedumers discuss The Archers

This week is important.     At times there have been suggestions that the powers that be might kill off The Archers, until eventually a myth seemed to develop and envelop the programme in some kind of magic force field that made it feel that the series was so iconic and everlasting that unlike Eldorado or Brookside there was nothing, not even stupid stories and unbelievably bad editing decisions, that could stop the juggernaut rolling on for ever.   We have suffered the motorway by pass being diverted, the village drowning, the residents moving to Northumbria, mystical recoveries from drug overdoses, […]
