DTD: 307 – Loneliness in Beechwood, Saturday soup and an extra long one before Xmas

It is a long recording this week as Lucy and Roifield discuss the angst arising from being parents of teenage children with Lucy having two and Roifield three (and I assume no overlaps).  Apparently there is a difference (who knew) between talking about porn and a pawn (in chess) and all I say is that the parents (whom I blame) should emphasise the rolling “r” to ensure there is no misunderstanding.  Roifield has been discussing sex with his daughter and I am a little surprised that did not end up on the cutting room floor.   Lucy has been cloned […]

DTD: 306 – How does rewilding make money and other Ambridge questions

The mystery noise in the background of the contributions from the stylish Roifield Brown is a leaf blower, not musical at all!  Lucy observed that the writers had struggled to fill the time this week and some late editing had inserted a lot of lists – such as Philip’s Christmas jumpers and Rex’s lost shoes (again); indeed she filled a lot of time with a long list of such events.  And even a badly maintained play ground these days is safer than the climbing frame in my school playground, which was as high as the roof on my house built […]

DTD: 305 Santa con comes to Ambridge and the story of the black Father Christmas

Diversity is high on the agenda this week.  Lucy is hugely enthusiastic of a strong week on The Archers luxuriating in the wonders of Santa auditions, the bonkers of Ambridge Rewiilding plus the return of Ruth and the images conjured up by Russ trying to direct Jim by way of Lizzie’s mental disturbances!  Roifield meanwhile is more interested in stories of his trousers not being removed in Lucy’s dreams (she is convinced that Zencaster is her undoing) and the state of his shoes when playing Santa – than talking about the week in Ambridge which obviously did not impress him […]

Character Count – November 2019

APPEARANCES THIS MONTH WHICH CHARACTERS WERE HEARD DURING NOVEMBER 2019? There were 49 characters altogether during November 2019. Two new characters — Roman Trench, an actor performing at the Grey Gables dinner show and Bella, Johnny’s girlfriend who became Johnny’s ex-girlfriend by the end of the episode. We also heard the dreadful Martyn Gibson for the first time this year, who was chairing the Borchester Land board meeting. DTD: 304 – A tribute to Colin Skipp, who played Tony Archer and other hot topics

The podcast opens this week with proper recognition of the contribution of the late Colin Skipp who played Tony Archer from 1967 to 2013 when sadly ill health meant he could not continue.  Tony was, I believe, the first baby Archer born during the series in 1951 but Colin was much older having been born in 1939 and newspaper reports from the period when Tony was very much the leading man often confused the ages of the two causing Colin some amusement.  Once Tony was a young man he took on the romantic lead replacing Phil – chasing women everywhere […]

DTD: 303 Lucy is joined by Harriet Carmichael to discuss all things Ambridge

We get an upgrade on Roifield this week when he is replaced by the many voices of Shambridges, so we variously hear from Kate, Alice, Clarrie, Susan, Joy, Kirsty, Lily as well as renditions of the sex noises of many Archers characters!  We do at times hear from Lucy and Harriet themselves but throughout much of the podcast the giggles of one drowns out the wise words of the other.   As this was their second recording I can honestly say that the extra rehearsal has had no impact on the quality of the performances.  It is also surprising that the jokes […]

DTD: 302 – Dumteedum awards

It was a star studded and glitzy event at Birmingham town Hall where Lucy and Angela handed out the awards for that you the Dumteedum listening public had voted for. 1. Best female character – Susie Riddell 2. Best male character: Joe Grundy – Tributes from Trevor Harrison AND Tim Bentinck 3. Scene of the year – Jim, with Jazzer and Alistair: Simon Frith 4. Best storyline – Jim opens up about his abuse 5. Favourite Callerinnerer: Witherspoon

DTD: 301 Dumteedum Live in Birmingham 2019

Lucy opened the show being joined by Andrew Horn, Roifield Brown, Suzie Riddell and Angela Barnes, the latter along with Catherine receiving an opening Happy Birthday preceeding the DumTeeDum performed by the 180 in the audience.    Suzie was an early version of Kate Aldridge leading Will & Ed astray amongst other doings for about 5 years before leaving returning after 17 years to take up the role of Tracy.  Angela’s listening history was pre-Siobhan and she remembers Eddie on crack.  Angela’s boyfriend’s face is apparently a picture but that does not work in either the podcast or in my little summary.  It […]

DTD: 300 – The 300th Dumteedum and its a shambles

Summarising this week’s DumTeeDum has been delayed by one of those disasters that always seems to strike me – the batteries on the earphones run down about two minutes after starting the dog walk where it was planned to absorb this week’s words of whimsy (sorry I think that should read wisdom) from Lucy, who has returned from her travels to deliver a wicked summary of the week in Ambridge which majors on pussy, and Roifield who regales us with a story of the kindness of the DTD community during his visit to Canada.    Being episode 300 there are […]
