DTD: 291 – Looking backwards on the Archers and Dumteedum

A somewhat unusual Dumteedum this week as Roifield has no Lucy on hand to make the jokes and is therefore relying on some previous episodes of the podcast plus contributions from callerinerers who tell us about how their Archers listening habits commenced. The episode contains the report of the original tent flap incident, involving Lizzie and Roy; Roifield’s view on the termination of the coercive control storyline (badly done you may recall);  Lucy’s and Witherspoons touching reports concerning aspects of their health. The latter two are particularly touching examples of the benefits derived from listening to or creating podcasts as it enables members of the community […]

DTD: 290 Neil slaps down Susan and Shula starts her path to Sainthood

One of the many callerinerers this week points out that the script came from the keyboard of Nick Warburton who impressed Lucy with his “On Mardle Fen” plays and which can be downloaded if you have an Audible subscription.  However the performance of the week came from Neil Carter (whose existence on the programme dates back to 1973) who was able to assert himself after 35 years of marriage and tell Susan that she needed to take a long look at herself in the mirror as to why Emma might not want to confide in “Radio Susan” – the Ambridge […]

DTD: 289 – The Fall out of Ed Emma continues alongside a promise of a naked Lucy

Lucy is encouraged to reveal all by Roifield this week as the prize for DumTeeDum reaching number one in the podcasting charts – so please submit your reviews to iTunes under multiple personae to ensure that she features on all 12 months of a calendar.  According to Roifield the photographer will need to source some larger buns. However many listeners will not hear this disclosure as (allegedly) they stop listening after Lucy has covered the week in Ambridge and this week probably as a result of technical issues the normal natter comes after the social media section and not before […]

DTD: 288 – Ed and Emma lose the house – this was peak Archers!

Lucy and Roifield return and appear to be in agreement that this week was of high quality throughout.  Hopefully a dissenting voice will be permitted.  Underlying aspects of the story do not match reality.  We all know it is possible to exchange and complete a house sale contract on the same day.  A new build such as the Grundies were to buy would not have that arrangement.  The exchange which locked in the buyers and sellers would be around 4 weeks not three working days before completion, potentially longer to ensure the buyer is on the hook. Then it was […]

DTD: 287 – Things go tits up for Ed and Emma and Berlin is the tits

With the holiday season in full swing (I have been cruising the Rhine & the Moselle for example) we have another change in hosts with Robert being joined by Angela Barnes who steps into Lucy’s delicate shoes to deliver the weekly summary of life in Ambridge as it becomes ever more peculiar! Older readers will have heard of the “Rumble in the Jungle”; well this week feels more like an “Amble in the Am” as the twosome not only cover the pitifully chosen and presented stories of Ambridge events but tell us about far more interesting subjects such as Robert […]

DTD: 286 – Adam and Ian go clubbing – a charming episode

Roifield and Lucy return to our ears.  Lucy is in rhetorical mode asking questions to try and understand the script and she is not alone. I had a couple of problems with content of The Archers this week.  Ian claimed to have worked a “shift” before going clubbing!  Ian is a chef and in overall charge of food and catering at Gay Grables and such people do not work “shifts”.  A bit later Bev denied she had said that she would take Poppy and yet she did say it.  If someone says they will do something then you believe them […]

DTD: 285 A plot prediction about the Gills as Robert and Andrew strike again

Andrew Horn joins Robert again this week (for the final week this time around) reporting receipt of “notes” from the headmaster after last week’s recording on improvements that could be made!  Makes me glad I am not in front of a microphone! A new caller from Miliebelle land has been listening to The Archers for about 11 years and was so excited at finding and joining our little community of docu-drama fanatics that they forgot to include their own name on their submission.  Hopefully we will soon hear from them again! Talking of exotic caller locations – this week Australia (above), […]

DTD: 284 – Andrew Horn joins Robert on this week’s tip top show

The presenter chair has a new occupant as Andrew Horn returns to join Naked Fingers.  Andrew is pretending to be Lucy.  Andrew started off by picking up the pieces of Jim which had been shattered at the end of the previous week.  But he finds like Alastair that stitching Jim back together may be easier said than done. Ed and Emma are buying an affordable house.  This usually means it is very small.  How in heavens name therefore are they going to get an upcycled coffee table and all of the other furniture into this tiny house? In some respects […]
