The origin of this ancient order is lost in the midst of time. There is mention of it in the footnotes of the Magna Carta and Bede makes reference to it in his Anglo Saxon Chronicles. Roifield revived the order some podcasts ago after realising that a long dead but beloved character of the show John Archer, had the same name as this order. He took the idea to Lord Netherbourne that Dumteedum could revive this old chivalric “gong”
To be awarded the order of John Archer you need to either have a “John” on your birth certificate or to tell us an endearing story about a John who is close to you. You can legally then fashion yourself a “John”. Each “Johnship” is awarded in order, with the John from Newcastle designated as John I,
John from Dorset – John II
John from Singapore – John III
I am John in Ladprao, Bangkok.
John from Minnesota – John IV
Maurice Snell – John V
Maureen Freiburger’s grandson John VI
I am the grandmother of John VI. Do I have a title, like Regeant or something? We don’t have that in “the colony that got away.” Anyway, little Johnny Freiburger is now a little over 3 months old. My husband and I have started day care for Sir John since his teacher mother started school. We were sitting on the porch swing today listening to your Dumteedum podcast and The Archers. It was a highlight of our very hot summery day in Iowa, USA. I’ll send a photo of Sir John VI, if it is ok with his parents. Really enjoying your podcast and, of course, The Archers. Well done, you
Kate Nichols Dad – John VII
My dad is John 7. He recently got an iPad so I am going to set up the DumTeeDum podcast for him over Bank Holiday weekend so do give him a shout out sometime to cheer him up while he recuperates from a successful operation on his leg. We might get him back onto listening to the Archers regularly – at least he will enjoy Lucy’s summaries more than my
meanderings!

Why, you may very well ask, do I feel entitled to such an award?
Well, not only do I share the same first two names as the late John Daniel Archer; I also have the very same birth month and year (December 1975)
Not only that, but my adult listening of the Archers started pretty much with the episode in which John was squished by the tractor…

My husband (the OH) has been called John ever since he was born. He doesn’t have a middle name, which is sad. He used to be one of those irritating people who used to call at 7.01 pm to chat, ask me what was for supper and tell me he was on the train (or not) but now he has finally learnt to send me a text to this effect so anything is possible. I think he got the message when I never picked up the phone. He virtually never listens to the Archers because he’s never home in time but, if he’s on holiday, say, he keeps interrupting and asking for the complete backstory about whoever’s talking. Which is even more difficult these days. All in all I think I deserve an Order of John Archer badge for my sheer heroism and tolerance. Pretty please?
