Well, this month The Archers seems to have become The Pargetters. Elizabeth (1), Freddie (2) and Lily (6) were all in the top ten of the character count. Not only that but Elizabeth appeared in the most consecutive episodes (3) on no fewer than four separate occasions. That’s got to be a record.

We met two newcomers in Lee, the karate instructor, who has the potential to become a regular and Judge Langford, who we probably won’t see again now she’s passed sentence on Freddie.

There were no long-lost returners, although we did hear Carol Tregorran and Tracey Horrobin for the first time this year. Fortunately, no one died during September.

Elizabeth had had the final word in five episodes – four of this were in one week.

Since we started counting the Right You Ares and Hello You Twos they have been very thin on the ground. September was another empty month. I wonder if we are inhibiting the writers…

The gender ratio saw a Brexit-style 52-48% split in favour of the women of Ambridge.

The September 2018 episodes were written by Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti (6), Liz John (6), Paul Broderick (12) and Tim Stimpson (1).
