I was listening to an old episode of dumteedum that talked about Pip and Jude and it got me thinking. Is there anyone in Ambridge who has married the girl next door / their first love? Or do they all have to have an unsuitable older man (Pip, Debbie, Lily, Elizabeth) or some other reason for first love to die? I’m thinking of Phoebe with Alex, the local yokel who didn’t want her to go to Oxford, and Roy with Kate. Maybe Alice and Chris are as close as we get to people who met while young and stayed together, even though I’m sure they’re due some rocky times soon.
