Having just listened to the flaming hen house episode, and wondering who set it alight,I can only see one possible culprit for the arson attack. Piqued by the suggestion by Toby Lazybeggar that it had to have an automated opening system, and as a way to supplement his farm worker’s pension by charging them for a second one, Bert torched his own handiwork.
This could be the start of something big. Fuelled by Carol’s ‘special’ tea, he could be about to wreak havoc in the village; with dire consequences for anyone who says the slightest thing to upset him. He has the perfect cover as the gentle old widower. Linda is toast.
Of course, others may see things differently…

I really think you are on to something there. An old lady once set fire to my bike (?!?!) after her husband died. We never found it why, I guess she was just angry it was in her way.

Thanks Jim. Beware disgruntled people with too much time on their hands. Bert”s reign of terror will start just in time to replace Rob’s.
