I think you’re right, Jim. Toby has behaved badly – that’s part of his lack of moral code.
Perhaps I don’t expect Toby to be respectful of his brother but whatever else I may have thought about Pip, I didn’t think she was this inconsiderate. Fair enough, she’s an adult and her private life is no-one else’s business but she must know how this looks. Just how serious was she about Matthew? Is this just a transitional relationship until she finds someone who is more like Matthew or until Matthew comes back? Has Toby really changed his ways? Is he genuinely ready to commit?
Pip doesn’t need people to be in favour of her relationship but it’s an awkward situation when your family are actively against it. I can see David and Jill remaining opposed to it while Ruth warms to Toby and Josh doesn’t really care. Sometimes a relationship can appear to flourish in the face of opposition because the couple have something to prove to all the doubters.
Pip may turn out to be the woman who can tame a “player”. We’ll see …
