Something that people who don’t work with animals don’t always understand too. You can’t go sick or decide to have a day off just because. The animals always come first especially if they’re your livelihood. David is obsessed because he has to be. Ruth has had time away in Prudhoe and now sees a different life away from that obsession.

I feel the same about the stick that David has received for being focused on work.
It is very unfair to criticise him for being work focused.
My husband runs, with his brother, a busy company, with 60 or so employees, about three different types of work, all of which need to be coordinated, which takes time, energy, focus and planning. Recently my rather disgruntled sister in law had a moan at me about the fact that the boys always seem to be working and have little time for our family lives…..my response is that we are there to support them, whilst profiting from the fruits of their labour and frankly to make the most of Saturday afternoons and Sunday’s, which are work free. She didn’t get it….(you see I really am living in a French version of The Archers)
So I can understand where David’s focus is although I also feel he is blinkered about having both wife and daughter, plus later possibly a son, working on the farm, and that Brookfield can support them all, but perhaps that is another discussion to be had!
