Roifield said as much once, didn’t he? Fully subscribe to the opinion that Justin is manipulating Brian to be at his beck and call. He always seemed too apologetic but always ready to call Brian and say he had done everything but the client couldn’t be swayed…pity he couldn’t do more etc etc.

This scandal was like a golden goose for Justin -he will have Brian in his pocket until he is in full control of the council and then bye bye Brian-will dispose of him when he has outlived his usefulness. Not suggesting he will murder him-feel Justin doesn’t get his hands dirty but taking away his respect and social standing and reputation and his job is just what I have no doubt Justin would do in a heartbeat to Justin. I mean you could hear Brian having to talk up the whole commercial venture in town which very much felt like it was going against his thoughts in the matter but he felt he owed it to Justin for his support in the previous meetings and even the board members knew it. Also the whole business man of the year and how he turned it down just for brian to be crowing about it and then it being taken away from him-no doubt he feels very smug personally and feels like a highflier from the city compared to Brian who is very much a country farmer and has dealt with rural people mostly however big and impressive his bank balance is. There is very much the city boys versus the country farmers vibe in their dynamic. Always thought Justin thought of Brian as small fry compared to the big league business men he is used to dealing with previously and so is manipulating him (and others)accordingly. Though I doubt he would see it as manipulative rather he would have the attitude “that it’s just business.” No doubt Brian would say the same once Justin leaves him for dust but I think Brian will be embittered despite saying that.

Also I remember Justin only sticking up for Brian once Lillian spoke up for him and his ties to her and then thought through how how he could use brian but rather said he was doing it out of friendship. He just realised how he could earn some points with Lillian’s family and also use Brian at the same time!
