Oh yes! My all time favourite character went, as Lucy said, POSTAL this week and wow was it spot on! What I love about the Archers is the class war that simmers under the surface and then – WHOOOOOSH! – like a geyser in Iceland (the country not the shop) erupts a stream of boiling rage, invective and bile!!!!! Susan has,at least in her mind, moved on from the council accommodation and her working class roots , so it is totally in character that when a real middle class person does something that slights her – she totally kicks off, exposing her inner demons – i.e. – that she will always be Susan from a council house and Pat is looking down her nose at her etc. And I’m so thrilled that Pat got it in the neck – Pat is unbearably patronising towards Clarrie luv and Soosan , and Soosan has her sussed….
And I do so hope that Susan keeps wearing the tabard – and continues to wear it a la Miss Haversham when the shop shuts – wandering around the executive lobby area, sparking off and giving people electric shocks from the nylon, clutching her bags of change, pricing gun and Post Office manual, scaring Hazel’s urban professionals in their shiny black and chrome bolt holes…..
